Summer Recess All Day Gym Camps (Grades K-5)

These Active Solutions All Day Gym Camps are perfect for the child that needs more movement in their lives! Lessons are designed and taught by Active Solutions  Instructor -  Pat Caldwell to keep kids engaged in learning activities and to keep their heart rates elevated. Character building, cooperative skills, individual success and safety are all emphasized. Children will experience many different activities during each dayʼs sessions, such as lifelong sport, recreation and fitness: most all individual and team sports, rope jumping, racket games, track and field, kickball, tag games, ultimate frisbee, capture the flag, frisbee golf, four square, floor hockey, bowling, volleyball, lord of the rings, pin guard, tangle town, mini mighty stations, pits and allies, Danish baseball and many others. Teachers also incorporate math, reading, health, nutrition and wellness into their lessons. Daily walking field trips to Lake Harriet Beach and along Minnehaha Creek for hiking and swimming (weather permitting). Please bring one very big lunch, two very big snacks, hat, shorts, t-shirts, gym shoes, sweat pants/shirts, swimsuit, towel, sun screen, water bottle and 2 books to read. Summer Recess Pedal, Paddle, Fish and Swim Outdoor Adventure Day Camps (Grades 2-5)

Active Solutions Teacher, Outdoor Specialist and Manager Mr. Pat Caldwell and Minneapolis Schools - Burroughs PE Teacher Mr. Pete Hill have created a Summer Outdoor Adventures Camp that is perfect for the child that needs more movement in their lives. The camp includes daily bicycling (on and off road bicycling), fishing, swimming, canoeing and kayaking adventures at different Minneapolis City Lakes and along Minnehaha Creek (riders should be proficient with basic bicycling skills). While at our favorite fishing holes, students will learn: proper identification and use of fishing equipment, baiting hooks (not required), removing fish from hooks (not required), casting techniques, presentation of bait and fish identification (no fishing experience necessary). We will practice catch and release techniques and use barbless hooks. Students will fish from fishing docks, shoreline and wade out into the water (up to their knees). All fishing equipment will be provided; students may bring their own fishing poles if they are in good working condition and they are set-up for panfish and ready to go (no big hooks please). When canoeing and kayaking, students will learn basic paddling stroke techniques, boating etiquette and water safety; no experience necessary. All boating equipment will be provided including Life Jackets. Character building, cooperative skills, individual success, bicycle maintenance, trail etiquette and bicycle safety are all emphasized. Math, reading, health, nutrition and wellness are incorporated into the lessons. If inclement weather, we will have indoor options. Please bring bicycle, helmet, fishing pole (if desired), one very big lunch, two very big snacks, shorts, t-shirts, gym shoes, sweat pants/sweat shirts, swimsuit, towel, sun screen, hat, backpack and water bottle. Advanced Summer Recess Pedal, Paddle, Fish and Swim Outdoor Adventure Day Camp (Grades 6-10)

Active Solutions Instructor and Outdoor Specialist Pat Caldwell and Burroughs PE Teacher Pete Hill have created a Summer Outdoor Adventure Camp that is perfect for middle schooler or high schooler that needs more movement in their lives. This camp is similar to the Pedal, Paddle, Fish and Swim Camps for elementary students but will include longer bike rides and more time on the water kayaking. This camp includes kayaking, bicycling, fishing and swimming. This camp will include a 1 day bicycle tour of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Riders must have a minimum of 24" wheels and their bike must have gears. While fishing we will practice catch and release techniques. All kayaking equipment will be provided including life jackets. Character building, cooperative skills, individual success, bicycle maintenance, trail etiquette and bicycle safety are all emphasized. Math, reading, health, nutrition and wellness are incorporated into the lessons. If inclement weather, we will not have an indoor option. Please bring bicycle, helmet, fishing gear, rain gear, one very big lunch, two very big snacks, shorts, t-shirts, gym shoes, sweat pants/sweat shirts, swimsuit, towel, sun screen, hat, backpack and water bottle.
