The Burroughs Running Club Youth Running Program will be coached by Active Solutions Instructor Coach Kyle Boeser (Burroughs Band Teacher). The runners will run from Burroughs to: the shores of Lake Harriet, along the banks of Minnehaha Creek, along the Minneapolis Parks pathways, up and down the grassy hills of Newton Hill, climb the American Ninja Warrior Wall, run through beach sand/water and just run, run, run. We will focus on getting to know your body and team building as students train for 5K Races. This running club will have an emphasis on training methods, runners etiquette and having fun. Listed are a number of activities and concepts we will be addressing: warm-up and cool down, stretching, pacing, field work, interval training, sprinting, hills, short and middle distance running, cross country endurance running, training in sand and water, healthy fitness and nutrition habits and other wellness concepts, speed and agility, strength training, runner safety, breathing, heart rate monitoring, how to dress when running and much more. Sessions begins with a getting-on-board and a warm-up activity that brings the runners focus onto the day's topic. The warm-up is followed by a stretching routine that allows for a topic-related question and answer time. Then, during the workout period (30 to 40 minutes), the runners participate in a variety of running activities that utilize a game or a team goal. Each session will afford runners the opportunity to choose a more advanced run for those students that would like to challenge themselves and give max effort on longer runs. Please bring: Note for classroom teacher is required - stating your child is to go directly to the gym after school, jacket, gloves or mittens, hat, shorts, t-shirts, running (preferred) or gym shoes will work fine, sweat pants/sweat shirts, snack to eat before each session and a water bottle. Classes meet in the Burroughs Gym after school to start, classroom teachers will escort your child from the classroom to the gym. Parents must provide classroom teachers a note stating that your child is to go directly to the gym after school. Students should bring their own snack to have before each session. Students that attend Minneapolis Kids and Rec Plus programs are welcome and encouraged to attend, these students will also be escorted to and from the gym. Active Solutions after school classes are open to any student from any school. If weather plays a factor, classes will be held in the gym and alternative activities will be played; classes will not be cancelled or rescheduled. If MPS cancels all district after school classes for any reason; Active Solutions will need to cancel all classes and they will not be rescheduled (Ski & Snowboard Club is the only exception). Students should register for the grade they are attending this school year, 2023-2024. If a child receives regular one on one type services throughout the regular school year, Active Solutions requires the parent to provide similar one on one type services throughout the duration of any Active Solutions camp or class. Parents will be required to schedule and pay for any fees associated with facilitating a service provider for their child. Parents; our services are TAX DEDUCTIBLE and qualify for education expenses (Minnesota Revenue, K-12 Education Credit, Schedule M1ED Form). Our services also qualify for Dependent Care Flex Spending and Work Child Care Programs. Registrations are accepted at the door (please call, text or email to reserve a roster spot). Parents will be notified via email before class or camp starts to confirm that your child is registered and to notify parents and students what to bring and what to do. If paying offline, checks can be made payable to Active Solutions, a receipt will be sent via email or US Mail upon parent request. All returned check fees and a 25% processing fee will be applied to all cancelations and will be paid by the parent. Active Solutions after school classes and camps that are canceled due to school district closure, weather or other circumstance will not be rescheduled and a credit may be provided which may be applied to future Active Solutions programs. Parents must provide transportation or allow students to walk or bike home, unless your child attends the Minneapolis Kids or Rec Plus programs. Cancelation Policy: If your family needs to cancel an Active Solutions After School Class or Full Day Camp you will receive a full refund up to 8 days prior to first day of class or camp. Any cancellation 7 days or later prior to camp start date will receive a 50% credit.
